ABEJA CABERNERT SAUVIGNON 07 $45 – This stuff smells fantastic. Abeja Cabs are so elegant – yet you still get the heft and massiveness. Polished black fruit with a red fruit burst, nestled like a cherry cordial on the back of your tongue. The whole wine seems encased in a creaminess, its supple and silky texture flowing out of the glass until the dark chocolate punch pops on the finish.
TRUST CABERNET SAUVIGNON 07 $36 – From the winery: We are greeted here with a nose full of cherry cordials: high-cacao chocolate, Kirsch, and a pie cherry in the middle. The fruit here (cassis, plum, and black cherry) has purity and focus, and it is framed by fresh notes of eucalyptus and green tea. This is balanced, elegant, food-friendly Cabernet: moderate in body, acid, tannin, and alcohol.
SHEA WINE CELLARS BLOCK 31 $54.95 – Beautifully bright cherry marries fleshy plum, creating a layered, bestof- both-worlds Shea Pinot. The finish finds an ideal harmony of rich and spicy, with cinnamon and thyme accenting the awesome, creamy textured Pinot fruit. For fans of the previous Shea Pommard and Wadenswil Pinots (no longer made), Block 31 is a wine you’ll love. It’s a blend of 70% Pommard and 30% Wadenswil clones and we highly recommend it. First vintage of this wine, made from one section (block) of the vineyard.
ARTERBERRY MARESH MARSH VYD 08 $74.95 – Arterberry Maresh Pinots are seamless and silky – the 2008 is bursting with succulent, mouthwatering, layered cherries and wild strawberries, with orange oil, cedar spice, brown sugar, black tea and huckleberry appearing on the finish. Tremendous Pinot sweetness gushes towards the end, ideally balanced by the 2008 dream-vintage acidity. A veil of super-fine tannins helps the finish resound. 9 barrels were made (224 cases), aged for 16 months in primarily twice filled barrels.
At right, Jim Maresh
Harvested October 26-30, the incredibly low yields – less than 1 ton/acre – ripened to perfection during cold, sunny days. The oldest blocks of Maresh Vineyard – the fifth oldest in the Willamette Valley – are in this wine. Vine age ranges from 1970 to 1991.
Arterberry Maresh 2008 Maresh Vineyard Pinot noir is one of the top 10 wines of Oregon’s perfect 2008 vintage. It’s early in the 2008 vintage, but I am confident in this prediction. I’ve come to know this wine throughout the process of barrel tastings over the last year. And it’s the real deal. The first time I tasted, it was lucky I was wedged between barrels at the winery, looking for something to sit on because this wine sits you down. I’m day-dreaming about those tastes, knowing how good this wine will be in a handful of years…if not a handful of months. – Marcus
ILLAHE PINOT NOIR 08 $20 – Both the Illahe and Genius Loci wines are made by Michael Lundeen (pictured at right). Illahe is on a roll, utilizing fantastic grapes from owner/ grower Lowell Ford.

Genius Loci is made with fruit from Illahe and from Michael’s own tiny vineyard. The operation is strictly “on the side” as Michael’s days are mostly filled with his responsibilities at Illahe.
